Summary of the Plot So Far

The protagonist, Taesung Han, is a player of a VR MMORPG named Brave New World (BNW) that’s so large (almost 8 billion acres big and 2 billion NPCs) players can earn money from playing.

Taesung is the leader of a guild, Beamer, until it’s destroyed by a rival guild, Genesis, and ends up on the run from a few Genesis members.

That is, until he’s saved by an old man NPC passing by who turns out to be at max-level.

Thanks to a surprise epic quest, Taesung asks the old man, named Deus, to take him in as a disciple and Deus agrees.

This seems significant as the developer of BNW is notified of this and unusual events are triggered, such as the beginner area being invaded by monsters at a much higher level than normal.

My Thoughts (Contains Minor Spoilers)

TL;DR The first 10 chapters are somewhat interesting but there are gaps in the world-building

One thing to note is that Taesung seems to be spending what appears to be a lot of time in the game to earn money.

He’s even taken out a loan of several hundred million won for one in-game weapon under the assumption he can pay that back.

For context, one hundred million won is about $75,000.

The biggest thing I’m hoping we get more information on is his financial situation as the manhwa briefly touched on the money-making aspect of the game.

Another thing that I’m interested in learning more about is the general mechanics of the game.

During his training, we learn that mana is a resource in the game and Taesung will gain bonus mana per level thanks to Deus.

But when Taesung opens his skill windows, the only information we get is the general description of what his skills do.

There’s nothing about mana costs, cooldowns, range, or anything like that.

While I’m not expecting a fully fleshed-out explanation of the game mechanics, if you’re going to introduce the concept of mana, I would like to see information about how it’s used when showing skills (or not used if the skills don’t actually cost mana.)

I also, just in general, would like to see more details about how the game works.

One thing we do know for sure is that there’s a sensory simulation system built into the game. 

And using that, Deus’ training involves feeling real pain during what he calls a “purification session”.

However, the pain Taesung feels during the purification session is so much more severe than normal he almost decides to log out only to stay and bear with it.

A few other things I want to find out are:

• What happened to his old guild members?
• Have they messaged him since the guild was destroyed?
• How will becoming stronger affect him financially in real life?

While I’m not 100% sure about the potential of this manhwa, if the summary does interest you, you should give Debuff Master a try.
