I recommend this if you want to read a new regression manhwa with a smart male lead working hard to be lazy

Summary of the Plot So Far

Dae-in Lim was an awakener getting ready to retire after twenty years of fighting when he regressed to his 20-year-old unawakened self.

Not only that, he’s back to when the world was adjusting to the new reality of awakeners, gates, and monsters.

Only two years since the first gate appeared.

Using his future knowledge, Dae-in decides to take advantage and profit to retire in three years.

And so far, everything’s going according to plan with one exception.

Which is accidentally stopping one of six calamities from burning half of Seoul in the future.

My Thoughts (Contains Minor Spoilers)

TL;DR Very mature MC, good action, good world-building, and lots of potential for an interesting plot and cast

Usually, dungeon manhwa take place well after the dungeons/gates start appearing with a well-established structure or industry in charge of them.

Instead, Dae-in has regressed to two years after the first gate appeared, meaning that humanity is learning how to handle gates, awakeners, and monsters.

No one can detect gates before they appear, so monsters can’t be stopped from running loose.

There’s no equipment to measure abilities and physical strength aside from normal tests like lifting weights.

Training facilities for awakeners don’t exist yet.

And they’re still discovering new monster species and how to fight them.

Considering the circumstances, I assume we’ll see how the world adapts and how Dae-in will affect that as the story progresses.

Guilds (startups) and Awakened

Even though the industry is young, guilds are gaining influence since society is starting to rely on awakeners to handle gates and monsters.

Lots of money is involved too since the guilds are extremely competitive in recruiting new awakeners and willing to spend millions to secure one.

And Dae-in capitalizes on this.

Knowing they’re desperate, he has no problem demanding more money and better work-life balance than they initially offer him.

Based on the amount of money he’s earned just from signing on with a guild, it seems he’ll speedrun his way to retirement (though I doubt the plot will let him.)

That aside, it seems fine to be an awakener without a guild as long as you’re registered as one though that probably means less income and you’ll be constantly targeted for recruitment.

I wonder if we’ll meet any freelancers in future chapters and how reaching out to them works during a crisis.

Characters

Dae-in has a very serious yet (mostly) kind personality.

His serious side is probably from his retirement being ripped away and not wanting to work another twenty years.

His kindness, on the other hand, seems to come from his experience working under others and seeing people being taken advantage of during the world’s transition.

This is in contrast with most of the side characters who are rather silly, making his interactions with them pretty funny though the one who really shines is Lily, a would-be calamity.

She’s a mix of cuteness, KFC, and fire-witch.

Dae-in saved her from some human traffickers and he’s been doting on her, giving her plenty of good and “healthy” food. (You’ll see what I mean in the manhwa.)

And while it seems he’s doing that to benefit from her magic, we see him get protective and angry on her behalf as well.

Lily seems to care about him too, willing to burn people in his way on multiple occasions.

Though he’s stopped her every time so far.

Dae-in’s interactions with other characters are interesting too, particularly with those who are more powerful and want to fight.

Changsu Baek is one such person, constantly asking Dae-in to spar with him.

While Dae-in can rely on his combat skills and knowledge to get ahead, there are fights he refuses to pick.

This is one of them.

And that’s not all, he also aborts a mission when he realizes an enemy is too strong for him to risk fighting.

Which is different from other dungeon manhwa, where we rarely see the protagonist back down from a challenge.

And I like it since it shows Dae-in as a mature MC, willing to consider the risks and rewards before making a decision.

Altogether, this manhwa seems really promising and I’m looking forward to what goes on in future chapters.
