New Isekai Fitness Manhwa 2024: The Genius Murim Fitness Trainer

I recommend this if you’re interested in a new fitness manhwa with an MC realistically dissecting the harsh training in murim manhwa

Summary of the Plot So Far

Ex-special forces turned fitness trainer Ganghyeok was reading his favorite author’s murim webnovel when he reincarnated into it as the protagonist, a child Shaolin disciple named Mujin.

Thinking it’s a dream, he plays along until he criticizes the disciples’ training methods, drawing everyone’s attention.

Mujin realizes too late that he’s not dreaming and has made himself stand out in the worst possible way.

Now he must prove himself by using his knowledge of modern fitness to navigate Shaolin training from disciples who believe damaging your body is the way to enlightenment.

My Thoughts (Contains Minor Spoilers)

TL;DR Hardworking and kind MC. Plus, you get to watch a gym bro educate monks on how to train without destroying your knees.

What makes this different

Mujin seems to be in a standard murim setting with concepts like breathing techniques, meridians, and so on.

But what makes this manhwa stand out is Mujin’s introduction of modern fitness conflicting with the standards of Shaolin training.

He makes valid points about how the training techniques will destroy the children’s bodies, leading to a lifetime of pain.

Which made me really think about the murim training I’ve seen in other manhwa is actually bad in practice.

And also slightly disappointed in the adults when they responded by saying suffering strengthened one’s mind.

I understand this response is due to tradition and the fact they’re arguing with a child but their later actions break their Buddha monk image.

Characters

Ganhyeok/Mujin is an ex-special forces soldier turned famous personal trainer after an accident that severely injured him.

His background seems to make him very confident, as he’s not afraid to point out problems and stays calm when he realizes he’s in a novel.

Though that last part might be because of the assumption he’ll leave when he reaches the story’s ending.

His background also lends him combat skills which I’m guessing will be very effective as he gets stronger but it’s not enough for him to coast by.

He has to learn how to use qi like everyone else which is very refreshing to see in an isekai.

We also see he’s very considerate when he uses or teaches physiotherapy, stretching, and massaging to help other disciples.

Though most side characters don’t appreciate his knowledge.

Most of the adult monks would rather use another student’s skills to prove Mujin wrong rather than argue against his points.

The kids seem more mixed, either being annoyed or at least considering his words.

He does get a few to listen to him who seem like they will end up being part of the main group for the story.

Muyul is especially interesting, as he follows Mujin’s lead but can be best described as no thoughts, head empty.

Makes me think he’ll turn into a crouching moron, hidden badass type of character in the future.

If what I’ve said sounds interesting, you should go ahead and read The Genius Murim Fitness Trainer, it deserves more attention in my opinion.
