5 of the Best Regression Manhwa (October 2024)

All manhwa I recommend are free online but as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases made through some links in this post.

While regression manhwa has a few names, such as second-chance and time travel, they are all part of the same subgenre.

That is, the main character gets a chance to start over and avoid the fate they met the first time.

That fate usually involves them dying but there are exceptions.

And since this is their second time living the same life, the main character has knowledge of future events that they can use for their own benefit.

If you’re interested in recommendations for a new second-chance story to read, here’s a list of manhwa based on the best manhwa I’ve read so far:

The Tyrant Wants to Be Good
Cover art of a regression manhwa. It depicts a blonde woman with a crown and dress in the middle, a white-haired and golden-eyed man on the left, and a black-haired and red-eyed man on the right

I recommend this if you want to read a romance fantasy manhwa about a female protagonist healing through her found family

In her first life, Dorothea was a tyrant who was executed for her horrible crimes.

Instead of dying however, she travels back in time to when she was a child and decides that she won’t repeat the mistakes of her first life.

She decides she will try to be good this time though that feels like a foreign concept to her.

Over the course of the story we learn more about Dorothea and her being neglected and unloved which led her down the path of a tyrant in a first place.

We learn about her regrets but we also see a lot of character development thanks to her found family.

I recommend this if you’re interested in a modern manhwa focused on the MC making money

Hyeonwoo Yoon worked for Soonyang, the largest conglomerate in South Korea, by cleaning up after their shady dealings for 13 years until they betrayed and murdered him.

Now he’s starting a new life 30 years in the past as Dojun Jin, youngest grandson of Soonyang CEO, Yangcheol Jin.

While his parents want to stay out of Soonyang affairs to live a normal life, Dojun chooses otherwise.

He decides to take revenge by taking over Soonyang, starting with using his knowledge of major events to get closer to his grandfather and make himself wealthy.

I really like this manhwa largely because Dojun balances acting like a kid with being a “genius” and he unintentionally comes to see Yangcheol as family.

I recommend this to readers who love a revenge manhwa with a smart and ruthless female lead

Nerys’ first life was filled with bullying and misery, ending in betrayal when she was poisoned.

She then goes back in time to when she started at the academy and starts plotting her revenge against everyone who took advantage of her, starting with her classmates.

While she does give some people a chance to prove they can change, they don’t and Nerys rewards them for that.

She’s ruthless and strategic, outsmarting everyone who tries to mess with her or who she knows will try in the future.

And even better, many of the antagonists are under the illusion that she can be taken advantage of.

I recommend this to readers who love a smart and strong female protagonist in a revenge story

Ethela is a princess of the Inuas kingdom and in her first life, her fiancé cheated on Ethela with her cousin.

Then her other cousin, Chantea, framed her as an illegitimate child so that he could steal the throne.

After that, Chantea sent Ethela away to the Ice Palace where she stayed until she died alone.

To her surprise, she travels back in time while also gaining a new ability to tell when someone is lying and she’s now out to get the throne that belongs to her.

Despite having “Villainess” in the title, Ethela can’t really be considered one (in my opinion, at least) as she only goes after people who have wronged her or are malicious.

Other than that, this is a very fun read as Ethela isn’t hesitant to do whatever she wants.

I recommend this to fans of modern romance manhwa and thrillers

Ro-a is the manager of a celebrity, Sihyeon, who has a very positive public image but is actually a tyrant in private.

As a result, she’s the only manager willing to stick with him though that’s only for the sake of her career.

He often and purposefully overworks her until it leads to her getting into an accident and dying.

Only, she’s traveled back in time and meeting Sihyeon for the first time, again.

Similar to The Price is Your Everything, Ro-a is facing the past version of a person who tormented her which leads to the dilemma of how guilty a character is for the abuse they haven’t committed yet.

She has to decide whether she should get revenge or stop Sihyeon from turning into his future self.
